Opuntia vestita, is native to Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. The type species forms slender cylindrical stems covered densely with long white hairs. This is an unusual cristate that forms undulating fans (hence the name "rollercoaster") covered with dense white hair. The cells at the tip of the branch where growth occurs can multiply at a much faster rate and the normal growing tip "goes crazy", creating fantastic whorls and fans "Roller Coaster". Porous cactus soil with adequate drainage. Bright light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Protect from frost.
